Guru Nanak Dev University Budget Estimates for year 2021-22 approved

Amritsar : The Senate and Syndicate of the Guru Nanak Dev University approved the Budget Estimates of 589 crore 18 lac and 95 thousand for the year 2021-22. University would spend 51.71 percent amount on further improvement in Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education.Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor presided over both the meetings and Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar presented the agenda in both the meetings. The members congratulated Prof. Sandhu and University Administration for presenting a balanced budget. Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs was also present. S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhava Cabinet Minister alongwith other members were also present offline-online in the meetings.During the financial year 2020-21, the University has spent Rs. 2 crores 45 lac to help the economically backward and intelligent students in the form of fee concessions. The fee claim of Rs. 7 Crore 70 Lac of 1040 SC candidates under post matric scholarships for SC student has been sent to Government of Punjab and online claim for 78 students under National Scholarhip scheme has also been sent to the Government. All efforts were made by University to help the financially backward students so that they could achieve higher education and contribute their share in the progress of the nation.During this financial year, University would spend 51.71 per cent of the total budget on Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education. Similarly, 12.25 per cent would be spent on non-teaching departments, 10.57 percent on general administration, 3.70 percent on the conduct of examinations, 14.75 percent on miscellaneous (teaching,non-teaching and others) and 7.02 percent would be spent on construction purposes.Punjab Government has increased maintenance grant including thirteen constituent colleges to Rs. 74 crores 73 lacs of the Guru Nanak Dev University.
Similarly, it is also expected to receive a grant of 41 Lac 45 thousand for establishment of Jallian Wala Bagh Chair at University Campus. International Students Cell has been established at the University campus to encourage forigen students. As many as 500 research scholars are conducting research in various subjects with the grant received from various funding agencies under different schemes.Prof. Sandhu also informed the house about the achievements of the University in the field of research, education, culture, sports and excellent campus placements during this year. He said that about 831 students from various department of the University were placed in various national and international companies.Due to the efforts of Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, a grant of Rs. 49.10 crores had been approved to celebrate 550th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev University, out of which Rs. 24 crores 56 lacs has been received. Grant of Rs. 3 Crore 50 Lacs under RUSA 2.0 Scheme and Rs. 1 Crore grant for School of Education has been recieved for the year 2020-21.The meetings also approved new courses includes Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Nutrition & Dietectics; Master of Vocation (M.Voc.) Fashion Technology; Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Electronic Equipments: Repair and Maintenance; Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Health Care and Hospital Administration; Master of Vocation (M.Voc.) E-Commerce and Advance Diploma Course in Urdu (Part Time). Enrolment of candidates for Ph.D. programme in Centre for Interfaith Studies and other three centres namely, Centre for Translational & Research in Health Sciences, Centre for Agricultural Research & Innovation and Centre for Sustainable Habitat has also been approved. The meetings also approved to mention Migration Certificate/Transfer Certificate instead of Migration Certificate to be issued by the Guru Nanak Dev University to the students. Prof. Sandhu also thanked the members and University fraternity for their cooperation and guidance for the more upliftment of the University. On this occasion, in both the meetings a large number of Syndicate and Senate members mark their presence offline-online.
