Jalandhar : Lovely Professional University (LPU) lifted the All India Inter University Judo Championship 2022-23 trophy in the male category. The five-day championship was held under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at the indoor stadium of LPU.
For this, 900 judoka students from 179 universities, across the country, participated in competitions held under seven weight categories. While LPU lifted the championship trophy; MDU Rohtak got second place; and, University of Delhi remained in third place.
Performing strongly, LPU’s players won six medals including 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze in six categories, separately, for getting declared at the top among all competitors. Competitions were held in the weight categories of 100+ Kg, -100 kg, 90 kg, 81 kg, 73 kg, 66 kg and 60 kg”.
LPU Judokas Vikas Dalal and Jagtar won ‘Gold’ in below 73 and 90 Kg category; Deepak Mishra and Ritik ‘Silver’ in below 81 and above 100 Kg; and, Money and Abhinav Bronze in below 60 and below 100Kg, respectively
.LPU Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal congratulated the winners and invoked them to keep on striving for other higher-level national and international competitions for bringing glory to self, university and the country.
Mrs Mittal was accompanied by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sanjay Modi, Dean Division of Student Welfare Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal, Tournament Director Rakesh Singh, International Technical Referee Suresh Kanojia, Associate Director V Kaul and sports officials from AIU.The competition witnessed game-skilled sportspersons from various universities across India, who exhibited their Judo competencies to impress all onlookers.
